This weekend saw many of our athletes basking in the sun at the Ayrshire Arena for the West District Championships, and while they were there, there were lots of medals and PB performances!
DAY 1
Saturday kicked off with Beth and Jamie, both running fantastic 100m hurdle races, and both came away with Bronze medals!
Beth then went on to run a strong 100m, finishing in 6th place with a time of 13.21. Jamie also went on to add another Bronze medal to his collection,with a height of 1.71 in the High Jump! Well done to Beth and Jamie!
The hurdles success continued with Nikkala winning Gold in the U17 category in a time of 13.41. She then went on to win a fantastic Bronze medal in the 100m which went to a nail-biting photo finish! Well done Nikkala!
Ethan then came 5th in his hurdles race with a time of 14.67. Well done Ethan!
And in the last of the hurdles races, Amy came 4th with a PB of 12.43. Amy then went on to win a Silver medal in the U15G shot put with a new PB of 10.98m. Well done Amy!
Next up were Max and Lucy in the 800m.
Max ran a strong race in his first West District Champs, shaving 3 seconds off his PB with a time of 2:38.08. Well done Max!
We then had another nail-biting photo finish wait for Lucy S which resulted in her winning a Gold medal in a time of 2:16.75. Well done Lucy!
And finally, Rory ran an extremely strong 800m in the U13 boys to win a Silver medal with a time of 2:27.49. Well done Rory!
Next up came the 100m.
Louis came 4th in his heat with a time of 13.76 which gave him a place in the final, where he came 6th with a time of 13.80. Well done Louis!
We then had Grace, Kayla (U13) and Lucy (U15), all taking part in their first West District Champs.
Lucy R came 3rd in her heat with a PB time of 13.94, and then came 4th in the semi-final, narrowly missing out on a place in the final against a strong field. Lucy also went on to take part in the Long Jump with a PB jump of 4.07m. Well done Lucy!
Kayla came 4th in her heat with a PB time of 14.57, and then was 5th in the semi-final with another PB of 14.46, just narrowly missing out on the final. Well done Kayla!
Grace came 2nd in her heat with a PB time of 13.93, then 3rd in her semi-final with another PB of 13.85, earning here a place in the final, where she managed to win a Bronze medal in her first ever major competition. Well done Grace!
Last up in the 100m was Owen, who came 5th in his heat with a PB time of 11.85. Well done Owen!
Meanwhile out in the field, Paul was busy collecting medals, managing to win Gold in shot put with a PB throw of 8.65m, Silver in javelin with a PB throw of 28.55m, and Silver in discus with yet another PB throw of 23.91m! Well done Paul!
And last but not least, Grant took part in his first ever major championships with PB performances in Long Jump (2.97m) and Shot put (3.56m). Well done Grant!
Day 2
Day 2 got off to a great start with Stella taking part in the U15G hammer, where she had a fantastic throw of 39.94m to win Gold! Well done Stella!
The track started off with the 200m, where we had Grace, Kayla and Owen taking part.
Kayla and Grace both ran strong heats in the u13G 100m, earning a place in the semi-final, where both came 5th with the same PB time of 30.62! Well done to both Kayla and Grace!
And Owen came 6th with a great time of 24.26 in his 200m. Well done Owen!
Next up came the 1500m.
Rebekah was first up in her first ever major championships, she ran a strong 1500m in the U13G category with a PB performance of 6:07.27. Well done Rebekah!
Grant was next, again running in his first major championship. He ran a strong race, ending up with a huge PB of 5:37.70. Well done Grant!
Alicia and Victoria came 4th and 5th respectively in the SW 1500m, with times of 5:04.12 (PB) and 5:32.79. Well done Alicia and Victoria!
Finally Dylan and Aidan came 5th and 7th in their age groups with great runs of 4:37.61 and 4:21.53 respectively. Well done to both Dylan and Aidan!
Meanwhile, back in the field, Adam came 4th in the U15B javelin with a throw of 17.34m. Well done Adam!
And the very last event of the day was the U15G discus, where Amy won Gold with a throw of 26.41m. Well done Amy!
